Draft pending legal review
This document is a working draft prepared for product development. Liability, payment, insurance, indemnification, and dispute-resolution provisions must be reviewed and approved by qualified legal counsel before publication.
1.Acceptance of terms
These Terms of Service (the "Terms") form a binding agreement between you and CampusRidez governing your access to and use of the CampusRidez mobile application, website, and related services (collectively, the "Platform").
By creating an account, posting a ride, booking a seat, or otherwise using the Platform, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms and by our Privacy Policy and Community Guidelines. If you do not agree, you must not use the Platform.
2.Eligibility and minimum age
You must be at least 18 years old and a currently enrolled student, or otherwise affiliated member, of a university supported by CampusRidez to create an account.
- You must have the legal capacity to enter into this agreement.
- You must not have been previously removed from the Platform for a policy violation.
- You must not be barred from using the Platform under applicable law.
CampusRidez does not knowingly permit accounts for individuals under 18. Accounts that we determine to belong to a minor may be suspended or removed.
3.Student and university email verification
Account creation requires verification of a valid university email address. Additional verification, including phone number verification, may be required before you can post or book rides.
Verification helps strengthen trust within the community. It does not constitute a background check, endorsement, or guarantee regarding any user's identity, conduct, driving record, or safety.
You agree not to use another person's university email, share verification access, or attempt to circumvent verification requirements.
4.Account creation and account security
You are responsible for maintaining the accuracy of your account information and the security of your account.
- Provide accurate, current, and complete information.
- Keep your credentials confidential and do not share your account.
- Notify us promptly at support@campusridez.com if you suspect unauthorized access.
- You are responsible for activity occurring under your account.
5.Platform role
CampusRidez provides a marketplace and coordination layer that helps verified students discover and arrange shared rides that a driver is already taking. CampusRidez is not a party to any arrangement between a driver and a passenger.
Drivers and passengers independently decide whether to participate in a ride, on what terms, and with whom. CampusRidez does not direct, control, supervise, or manage rides, routes, timing, or vehicle operation.
6.CampusRidez as a technology and coordination platform
CampusRidez is not a transportation carrier, taxi service, commercial ride-hailing service, transportation network company, travel agency, or common carrier. CampusRidez does not provide transportation services.
- CampusRidez does not employ drivers.
- CampusRidez does not own, lease, operate, or maintain vehicles.
- CampusRidez does not dispatch, assign, or schedule rides.
- CampusRidez does not set fares or guarantee any commercial terms between users.
7.No guarantee that rides will be available
CampusRidez does not guarantee that a ride will be posted, available, booked, accepted, completed, or performed on time along any route or at any time. Ride availability depends entirely on independent student activity, which CampusRidez does not control.
8.Driver responsibilities
If you post or provide a ride, you agree that you will:
- Post accurate route, departure time, seat availability, and vehicle information.
- Operate the vehicle lawfully, attentively, and safely at all times.
- Only carry the number of passengers for which the vehicle has functioning seat belts.
- Maintain the vehicle in safe operating condition.
- Honor confirmed bookings or cancel promptly and clearly if plans change.
- Treat every passenger respectfully and protect their personal information.
9.Passenger responsibilities
If you book a ride, you agree that you will:
- Provide accurate pickup and drop-off information.
- Be present and ready at the agreed time and location.
- Wear a seat belt for the duration of the trip.
- Respect the driver, the vehicle, and other passengers.
- Cancel as early as possible if your plans change.
- Pay any agreed cost-sharing amount as arranged.
10.Driver licensing, registration, and insurance obligations
Drivers are solely responsible for holding a valid driver's license, current vehicle registration, and all insurance coverage required by applicable law and by their insurance policy.
CampusRidez does not provide, arrange, or verify insurance coverage of any kind for any ride, driver, passenger, or vehicle. CampusRidez does not offer commercial auto liability coverage.
Drivers should confirm with their own insurer whether cost-shared carpooling is covered under their policy before offering rides.
11.Compliance with traffic and transportation laws
All users must comply with applicable traffic, vehicle, transportation, licensing, and local laws and with the rules of any campus or private property involved in a pickup or drop-off. Users are solely responsible for their own legal compliance.
12.Ride posting and booking rules
- Ride postings must reflect a genuine trip you intend to take.
- Do not post duplicate, speculative, misleading, or fraudulent rides.
- Do not book seats you do not intend to use.
- Seat availability must accurately reflect lawful capacity in your vehicle.
- Do not use the Platform to advertise unrelated goods, services, or solicitations.
13.Pickup and drop-off information
Each passenger may provide their own pickup and drop-off location for a booking. By submitting this information, you authorize CampusRidez to share it with the driver and any other participant who requires it to complete the ride.
Exact addresses are not shown in public ride feeds, public profiles, or push-notification text. Users who receive another user's location information must use it solely to complete the ride and must not store, share, or repurpose it.
14.Cancellations
Drivers and passengers may cancel a booking through the Platform. Repeated late cancellations or no-shows may result in reduced visibility, warnings, suspension, or removal.
CampusRidez does not assume responsibility for costs, missed connections, or other consequences of a cancellation by another user.
15.Payments or cost-sharing, if applicable
Where cost-sharing is used, contributions are intended to help offset the driver's actual trip expenses such as fuel and tolls. Cost-sharing is not intended to generate profit for the driver.
If in-app payment processing is not enabled for your market, any cost-sharing is arranged directly between users and CampusRidez is not a party to that arrangement.
Payment terms, processing, refunds, and tax treatment are subject to legal review and may vary by jurisdiction.
16.Prohibited commercial use
You may not use the Platform to operate a commercial transportation business, taxi service, livery service, courier service, or delivery service, or to solicit customers for any such business. Rides must be genuine shared trips, not services offered for profit.
17.User conduct
You agree not to:
- Impersonate another person or misrepresent your affiliation.
- Harass, threaten, stalk, or intimidate any user.
- Collect or scrape user data from the Platform.
- Interfere with, reverse engineer, or attempt to disrupt the Platform.
- Use the Platform for any unlawful purpose.
18.Harassment and discrimination
CampusRidez has zero tolerance for harassment, sexual harassment, threats, hate speech, or discrimination based on race, color, national origin, ethnicity, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, age, veteran status, or any other protected characteristic. Violations may result in immediate and permanent removal.
19.Alcohol, drugs, weapons, and dangerous behavior
The following are strictly prohibited on the Platform and during any ride arranged through it:
- Operating a vehicle while impaired by alcohol, cannabis, or any other substance.
- Consuming alcohol or illegal drugs in a vehicle.
- Carrying weapons in violation of applicable law or campus policy.
- Reckless, distracted, or aggressive driving, including speeding and phone use while driving.
- Any threat or act of violence.
20.User-generated content
You retain ownership of the content you submit, including profile information, ride descriptions, and messages. You grant CampusRidez a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, and display that content solely to operate, secure, and improve the Platform.
You represent that you have the rights necessary to submit your content and that it does not violate any law or third-party right. We may remove content that violates these Terms.
21.Chat and communications
In-app chat is provided to help users coordinate rides. Messages may be retained and, where permitted by law, reviewed in connection with a report, safety investigation, support request, or legal obligation. Do not use chat to share sensitive personal information such as financial account details or government identifiers.
22.Push notifications
By enabling notifications you consent to receive ride-status, booking, chat, and safety notifications. You may disable notifications in your device settings, but doing so may cause you to miss time-sensitive ride updates. Exact addresses are not included in notification text.
23.Location data
The Platform uses location information to display relevant rides, support navigation, and enable pickup and drop-off coordination. Our handling of location information is described in the Privacy Policy. You may control location permissions in your device settings, which may limit certain features.
24.Reviews, reports, and investigations
You may report conduct that violates these Terms or our Community Guidelines. CampusRidez may review reports, request additional information, examine relevant account and ride records, and take action at our discretion. We do not guarantee a specific outcome, timeline, or disclosure of investigative details.
25.Account suspension and termination
We may suspend, restrict, or terminate your account, with or without notice, if we believe you have violated these Terms, created a safety risk, or engaged in fraudulent or unlawful activity.
You may stop using the Platform at any time and may delete your account as described on our Account and Data Deletion page.
26.Third-party services, maps, SMS, and notifications
The Platform relies on third-party services including mapping and navigation providers, SMS and messaging providers, push-notification services, and cloud hosting providers. CampusRidez is not responsible for the accuracy, availability, or performance of those services. Your use of them may also be governed by their own terms.
27.Intellectual property
The CampusRidez name, logo, wordmark, software, design, and content are owned by CampusRidez or its licensors and are protected by intellectual-property laws. You may not copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative works from the Platform without our prior written permission.
28.Disclaimers
The Platform is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, and non-infringement.
CampusRidez does not warrant the conduct, reliability, identity, driving ability, or suitability of any user. Verification helps strengthen trust, but no verification system can eliminate all risk. Users are responsible for exercising their own judgment before and during any ride.
This section is subject to review and approval by qualified legal counsel prior to publication.
29.Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, CampusRidez and its officers, employees, and agents will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data, personal injury, or property damage arising out of or relating to your use of the Platform or any ride arranged through it.
The scope, exclusions, and any monetary cap in this section are placeholders pending review and approval by qualified legal counsel.
30.Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless CampusRidez from claims, damages, losses, liabilities, and expenses arising from your use of the Platform, your conduct during a ride, your breach of these Terms, or your violation of any law or third-party right.
This section is subject to review and approval by qualified legal counsel prior to publication.
31.Dispute resolution
If a dispute arises, we encourage you to contact us first at legal@campusridez.com so we can attempt to resolve it informally.
Disputes between a driver and a passenger are primarily between those users. CampusRidez may provide relevant ride records where appropriate and permitted by law.
32.Arbitration and class-action provisions
Reserved. CampusRidez has not adopted a mandatory arbitration clause or class-action waiver in this draft.
Any such provision will be added only if it is drafted, reviewed, and approved by qualified legal counsel and complies with applicable law, including any required opt-out and notice procedures.
33.Governing law
These Terms are intended to be governed by the laws of the State of Texas, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules, except where applicable law requires otherwise. The governing-law and venue provisions are subject to confirmation by legal counsel.
34.Changes to the service
We may add, modify, suspend, or discontinue features, supported universities, or the Platform as a whole at any time. We will make reasonable efforts to communicate material changes that affect active bookings.
35.Changes to the terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above and, for material changes, provide additional notice through the Platform or by email. Continued use of the Platform after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
